Acrylic bathroom trays that stay clear

Clear acrylic is the most practical tray material for a wet counter. It does not rot, rust or etch, it is light, and it lets a pretty counter show through. It does scratch, and the wrong cleaner clouds it.

Short answer

Choose acrylic for the spot right beside the faucet, for kids’ bathrooms, and for anywhere you want the tray to disappear. Clean it with mild soap and water on a soft cloth. Never use ammonia glass cleaners such as typical window sprays: they can permanently cloud acrylic.

Why acrylic suits the splash zone

Next to the faucet, everything gets wet. Acrylic does not care: there is no grain to swell, no silvering to tarnish and no calcite to etch. It is also light, so it is safe on a tank lid, and clear, so it does not compete with a marble or wood counter.

Questions people ask

Is acrylic good for a bathroom tray?

It is one of the most practical choices. Acrylic does not absorb water, will not rust or etch, and survives a fall that would break glass. Its weaknesses are scratches and clouding from harsh cleaners.

How do I clean a clear acrylic tray?

Rinse or blow off dust first, then wipe with mild dish soap and warm water on a soft microfiber cloth and dry it. Avoid paper towels, abrasive sponges and ammonia glass cleaners, which plastics suppliers warn can scratch or permanently cloud acrylic.

Can scratches be removed from acrylic?

Fine scratches can be polished out with a plastic polish made for acrylic. Deep scratches cannot. Prevention is easier: soft cloths, light pressure and felt or silicone feet under heavy bottles.

Acrylic or glass tray?

Glass resists scratches better and feels heavier and more substantial, but it breaks if knocked onto a tile floor. Acrylic is lighter and shatter resistant, which suits a busy family bathroom, but it scratches more easily.
